It's important to watch and observe energy

How to become an energy watcher

The traffic cop looked sharp, his sunglasses shielding his razor-sharp glares as he vigilantly watched for the intrepid traffic violator. Alone in the middle of a busy six-lane junction, he directed the relentless flow of vehicles, waving his hands and blowing his whistle. His crisp white uniform clung to his body, drenched in sweat from the harsh noon sun. His flimsy cap did little to protect him from the relentless glare.

An eight-hour stretch of standing — probably with just a few breaks. And through it all, unwavering concentration.

I wonder, does he have a family to feed? What kind of work-life balance does he really have? Does he suffer from skin ailments caused by long sun exposure? Does he even know about sunscreen? Would he scoff if I told him about it?

On the bright side, his Vitamin D levels must be excellent — soaked in sunlight all day long. Yet, if managing traffic is an art, does this intense focus make him a natural manager — even without an MBA? Could I handle his demanding job for a day?

I feel a surge of gratitude toward him and all those like him, the silent cogs keeping the city moving. Does that occasional ‘unfair’ traffic fine really bother me, or should I let it pass, remembering the human effort behind the uniform?

What if I took a moment to acknowledge his hard work — would it brighten his day, help him face the hours with renewed energy? Could such simple appreciation be an energy exercise in healing and connection?

Hmm, quite possibly.

This everyday encounter is a reminder of how energy flows invisibly through our interactions and roles — how awareness and gratitude can transform ordinary moments into powerful shifts.

Energy Exercise: The Power of Appreciation

Try this simple yet powerful energy exercise the next time you encounter someone in a demanding or thankless role:

  1. Pause and Observe: Notice the person’s effort and energy — what are they doing that requires focus, patience, or endurance?
  2. Send a Silent Affirmation: Mentally send a positive energy message to them. It can be something like,
“May your energy be renewed and your efforts be appreciated.”
  3. Express Gratitude: If possible, say a kind word or thank them genuinely. Even a smile or nod can transmit positive energy.
  4. Reflect on Your Energy: Notice how this act of appreciation affects your own mood and energy levels. Does it lighten your heart? Does it feel energizing?
  5. Repeat Daily: Make this a small habit to recognize the unseen energy in everyday people and moments.

This simple shift can create a ripple effect — healing energy flows both ways, enriching your life and theirs.
