How would you like it if your child was taught nine essential industry skills and gained the mindset to be curious, grounded, energised, and aware? All this, taught by industry mentors, for a fraction of the price you would otherwise pay in the market? That’s the magic of this unique programme. Remember, every child is just a caring adult away from being a success story.

What is it?

A unique month-long newspaper-making project for 8 to 18-year-olds staying in large housing complexes, gated communities and towers in India.

What will the content be about?

The newspaper will be about your complex, by your complex's youngsters, and circulated within the complex.

What will be taught?

Nine key skill sets related to publishing. They will learn the art of news writing, will interview residents and hidden achievers, understand pricing and business modelling.

The Process

They will interview, write stories, hunt for ads, design them, learn reporting, editing, newspaper production, and finally circulate the paper within the complex.

The Meetings

It's a 4-week project comprising over 30 hours of interaction and involvement with the Energenie team, both online and in person depending on location.

What will it cost?

The society will not bear any cost. Each participant pays a mentorship fee, and the paper will be funded through ads the participants will be trained to get.

5 steps to creating your newspaper

STEP 1: Meeting with housing society

Initial meeting with housing complex authorities and parents to chalk out the details.

STEP 2: Edit meet with the Journos

First edit meeting with The Journos to decide decide content, who to approach for ads, and decide on the overall structure of the newspaper. The decide on Energenie team will mentor the bureau in reporting, interviewing, and writing like a journalist.

STEP 3: Deciding on the stories

Finalising the pictures and stories received. Designing the ads. Making the layout of the newspaper with the help of a professional graphic artist.

STEP 4: Wait for final paper

Wait with bated breath for the final published issue! Circulate it in your housing complex, take feedback.

STEP 5: Investiture ceremony

Distribution of participation certificates to the editorial board with their parents in attendance.
